« BackParalympic Dressage
Michele Codd (Homerton 1973)
I am lucky enough to have been selected as a volunteer to be a dressage writer for the Paralympics. The riders are classified according to the limitations on their physical capability, so the most disabled undertake a set dressage test in walk, while the least disabled complete a more physically demanding test in walk, trot and canter.
The riders are awe-inspiring - many also compete successfully in able-bodied dressage -and the horses world-class. As the writer, I sit next to one of the 5 Judges and write the comments and scores given for each movement in the tests. It's a huge honour to have been selected for the task, and to do it in my own capital city will be particularly special.
