About Marcus Bleasdale CMG

Marcus has been involved in advocacy and human rights for twenty-five years. In his role as a documentary photographer for National Geographic Magazine and Human Rights Watch. He has documented conflict and the impact natural resources have on conflict and he has educated and advised corporations and policymakers around the world.

His work on human rights and conflict has been shown at the US Senate, The US House of Representatives, The European Parliament, The United Nations in NYC, the International Criminal Court, and the Houses of Parliament in the UK.

Marcus is also the Managing Director of Wilstar, the social impact investment arm of the Arne Wilhelmsen family office. Wilstar finances and develops social entrepreneurs creating an impact in Education, Women's Rights and Marine Conservation. Marcus has developed innovative social and environmental impact measurement and management metrics for the family office, assisting the alignment of family values and investment strategy.

Marcus also focuses on multi-generational engagement and development within the family office, developing responsible future owners of wealth. We do this by engaging in meaningful partnerships on issues such as climate change, carbon reduction/offset, plastics pollution, and the energy transition.

He has published three books, "One Hundred Years of Darkness" 2002 and "The Rape of a Nation" 2009, and “The Unravelling” 2015.

Marcus is an advisory board member of Eyewitness to Atrocities and an advisory board member of the Cambridge institute for Sustainability Leadership multigenerational programme. He is a board member of the Congo Kids Initiative and a fellow of the Enough Project. Marcus holds a bachelor’s degree in business and finance and a Master’s Degree in International Relations from The University of Cambridge.
